Andile Schoellhorn
is a ceramist based in Türkheim Germany. She was born in Gaborone Botswana where she partly grew up before her family moved to the USA. Upon returning to South Africa, Schoellhorn studied ceramic design and obtained a National Diploma at the University of Johannesburg and later furthered her studies at the University of Arts London Central Saint Martins Kings Cross in London. Her work has been featured in numerous prestigious exhibitions including the Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards in South Africa and Absa Atèlier She has also won some awards including the 30/30 Individuals – Ekurhuleni, Young up and coming artist award and the Töpfer 1st Prize Izanang Bodensee in 2018. Schoellhorn’s work is inspired by the Chinese Blue and white ware and delft ware in her latest body of work she explores ideas of identity. She draws images of women dressed in their traditional attires, jewellery and head attires, so as to explore ideas of “ones- self“ and as a form of ones exceptance. She is the founder of Andile Ceramics and currently lives and works in Germany.
